Benvenuto in la bella Italia

We made it.  We arrived in Brindisi, Italy on June 14th at 3 pm local time.
We left Mobile Alabama 24 hours ago. We managed to get the suitcases and backpacks in the
Italian rental car and took off for the holiday rental that we have booked until September 30.
It's a small place, but given the fact that we arrive in peak season, we didn't have a huge amount of
places to choose from. My Alabama friends and colleagues know what lengths I went through to find
a place, so it may not be perfect, but it will have to do for now.
When we arrived at the "villa"  - yes, all houses are called villa's here and no, it's definitely not a villa
by European or American standards - the property manager Costanza was waiting for us the keys and
explain how everything worked.  We soon found out that we don't have the luxury of putting our trash
outside. We have to recycle everything separately and take it to the recycle park ourselves - the isla
ecologica. It sounds bigger than it actually is, trust me.
Also, there is the issue with water.  We're not supposed to drink the water that comes from the tap
because it  comes from a well and is not filtered. So far, no problem. The fact that your well needs to
be refilled every so often is a totally different story !  So far we had to call the "water truck" once and
he gave us one load of water. He told us to keep an eye on the well every about every 10 days and if
we deem it necessary we should call him for another load or even two....  Right.... We're starting to
wonder if maybe we got in a time machine instead of an airplane... Furthermore, every time I look
down that well it seems as empty as ever. Oh well. I guess we'll find out the hard way one day when
no water will be coming out of the shower...

Anyway, we decided not to focus on these little hurdles, but instead go find us a fantastic pizza and
fill up our stomachs before turning in for the night.  Let's see what tomorrow has in store for us.
